OET is an international English language test specially introduced for healthcare professionals worldwide. It assesses the English communication skills of these professionals to ensure they meet the language competency levels in medical settings. OET is comparitively easier to IELTS and has become a popular alternative to the IELTS for healthcare professionals who find it challenging to score in IELTS.
- The 12 healthcare professions that OET Exam is available for include - Dentistry | Dietetics | Medicine | Nursing | Occupational Therapy | Optometry | Pharmacy | Physiotherapy | Podiatry | Radiography | Speech Pathology | Veterinary Science.
- OET Test is available to take in Pen & Paper, as well on Computer-Based. OET (Pen & Paper Test) is usually available to take 24 times in an year. OET on Computer is with many test dates.
- The Total Test time is about 3:15 hrs (Including the Speaking Sub-test). Test Results are available in 13 days (for Paper Based Test); in 4-7 days (for CBT)
- The OET Test Fee Stands at $587 AUD (Approximately 32,000 INR).

To excel, you must grasp the specific requirements and nuances of each sub-test. Before starting your OET preparation journey, it’s crucial to have a deep understanding of the exam’s format.
OET test will be divided into four sub-tests, namely listening, reading, writing, and speaking. These sub-tests contain questions concerning tasks and settings from the healthcare environment. The OET Test pattern shows that the OET Test format is the same for all 12 healthcare professions. Writing & Speaking Sub-tests are profession-specific and based on a typical workplace situation. The total time to take the test is 3 hours, but you will have to finish the sub-test within the designated time allotted.

The OET syllabus for the OET Listening Sub-section is divided into three parts, they are: Part A, Part B and Part C with 42 Questions in 38-45 minutes.
- Part A: Part A of the Listening test evaluates one on the basis of their identification of specific information in a health consultation and requires one to complete the notes. Candidates would be required to complete the health professional notes from two recorded healthcare consultations. [Duration: 5 minutes each]
- Part B: Part B assesses one based on their ability to pick up and understand the detail, gist, opinion or purpose of short extracts from the healthcare domain. In this Part, the candidate is tested on identifying details of short extracts from the healthcare workplace. [Duration: 1 minute each]
- Part C: Part C requires candidates to listen to multiple recorded presentations or interviews on a range of accessible healthcare topics and answer multiple-choice questions for each extract. [Duration: 5 minutes each].

The Reading Sub-section is divided into three parts that consist of a total of 42 question types that need to be solved in 60 minutes.
- Part A: For the first task, candidates would be required to read four short essays and locate specific information from the texts. The essays provided to the candidates would be related to general healthcare topics. The questions could vary from matching the following, sentence completion to short answer questions
- Part B: For the second task, candidates would be given multiple short texts related to generic healthcare topics and candidates would be required to identify the main points and answer multiple-choice questions. The essays can include topics ranging from policy guidelines, hospital guides, manuals, emails, memos to internal communication.
- Part C: For the third and last task, pertaining to the Reading section, candidates would be required to identify the detailed meaning of the topic provided to them and answer multiple questions for the same. For Part B & C - 45 minutes.

- Upon Sign in, click 'Apply for the test' at the top of your account dashboard.
- Next, Select the Date & Center (place) and proceed for booking. You’ll have 15 minutes to complete the OET booking from when you select your test date.
- At the End, Proceed to payment to finalise your OET Test booking.
- You’ll receive a Confirmation Email from OET when your OET Test has been booked. Check your inbox and junk/spam folders for Test Confirmation Email.
