There are total three parts in the sub-test. It takes Approximately 40 minutes, and 42 questions to answer in total

• OET Listening – Part A: 24 Questions; 2 Extracts with (Each 12 Questions)
  Part A of the Listening test evaluates one on the basis of their identification of specific information in a health consultation and requires one to complete the notes. Candidates would be required to complete the health professional notes from two recorded healthcare consultations.
  
  
• OET Listening – Part B: 6 Questions with 6 Audio Extracts
  Part B assesses one based on their ability to pick up and understand the detail, gist, opinion or purpose of short extracts from the healthcare domain. In this Part, the candidate is tested on identifying details of short extracts from the healthcare workplace.
  
  
• OET Listening – Part C: 12 Questions; 2 Extracts with (Each 6 Questions)
  Part C requires candidates to listen to multiple recorded presentations or interviews on a range of accessible healthcare topics and answer multiple-choice questions for each extract.

• OET Reading – Part A: 20 Questions; 15 minutes
  For the first task, candidates would be required to read four short essays and locate specific information from the texts. The essays provided to the candidates would be related to general healthcare topics. The questions could vary from matching the following, sentence completion to short answer questions.
  
  For Parts B, C, there will 22 Questions with 45 minutes time allotted 

• OET Reading – Part B: 6 Questions 
  For the second task, candidates would be given multiple short texts related to generic healthcare topics and candidates would be required to identify the main points and answer multiple-choice questions. The essays can include topics ranging from policy guidelines, hospital guides, manuals, emails, memos to internal communication.
  
  
• OET Reading – Part C: 16 Questions; 2 Extracts (Each 8 Questions)
  For the third and last task, pertaining to the Reading section, candidates would be required to identify the detailed meaning of the topic provided to them and answer multiple questions for the same. 

The writing module in the OET test takes 45 minutes to complete. The task requires the candidates to write a letter that is related to the medical profession. The letter has a specific format to follow and it evaluates the writing skill of the test givers.

OET writing task deals with letter writing and there are mainly three classifications of letters you will find they are :

1. Referral letter
2. Transfer letter
3. Discharge letter
   
   

OET candidates will be assigned the role of a medical professional and they have to write a letter addressed to another health care worker. These letters will be based on original clinical scenarios and through the letter, they are required to communicate relevant patient information to give necessary care or further treatment to the patient.

Each section of this guide aligns with the assessment criteria used to score the letter that you’ll write as part of the Writing sub-test. The criteria include:

• Purpose (0-3 band score)

• Content (0-7 band score)

• Conciseness & Clarity (0-7 band score)

• Genre & style (0-7 band score)

• Organisation & layout (0-7 band score)
• Language (0-7 band score)

The speaking module takes about 20 minutes to complete and it is an interactive session. The examiner is called the interlocutor and the test will be recorded for assessment. The candidate has to perform two role-play cards each of which will be dealing with clinical scenarios.
